My undergraduate degree from Michigan State University in Social Work included a concentration on Women’s Studies and Childhood Development.
Early on I spent two years working in a Domestic Violence Shelter for women and Children and Two years as part of the Sexual Assault Prevention Program at Michigan State University.
I am proud to say that I participated in Beaumont Hospital’s Parenting Program for eight years, founding the current Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Parenting Program for families with medically fragile children, offering groups and individual, home based care.
Certified in Prepare/Enrich Pre-Marital Assessment
Training and Certification in Psychological Debriefing Techniques for Trauma
I have been working with families for over 25 years in one capacity or another. Most of my work has centered on parenting struggles or issues that challenge marriages or family stability like depression, sexual addiction, same sex attraction, sexual abuse or blended families.
Marriage counseling and couples counseling is a primary focus of my practice. I am invested in working with couples as they identify patterns and issues that prevent healthy intimacy and communication. Boot Camp for Couples is a class developed by TrueNorth, targeting the dynamics behind the emotional unavailability couples experience.
I adhere to a family systems model in my work with families, children, teens, and college students.
Group work is a favorite of mine because of the rich opportunity for growth and change within the group dynamic. We offer groups for Bipolar Depression, Teen Depression, Co-Dependency, Abuse, and Parenting to name a few.
